Zoom Picture

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic rose from a ranking of 94 to 79 in the list of countries by Human Development Index HDI as included in the United Nations Human Development Report 2007-2008.

The analysis is from the report published November 27, 2007, and covers 175 countries. It said in the Americas, Dominican Republic has a human development index higher than Haiti, Guatemala, Bolivia, Honduras, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Guyana, Paraguay and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The HDI is a worldwide comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, standards of living. and to measure the impact of economic policies on the quality of life.

The analysis dodn’t include 17 UN member countries due to lack of data.

Great... we're doing better than all the loser of Latin America; I expect this already.

When we reach the status of Costa Rica, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina then and only then will i have cause to celebrate....

We still have a long road to walk, but we're getting there step by step.

Imagine where we would have placed if we had not wasted so much money on the METRO and had invested it in education!

"Imagine where we would have placed if we had not wasted so much money on the METRO and had invested it in education!"

The Metro is an investment in education it will ease the traffic and provide a fast efficient way for the students and techers to get to their classes and also get home at a decent hour.

If you live here, you know what it is like on Maximo Gomez from 5:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
Full of public cars unsafe buses and a lot of long unhappy faces.
The forward thinking of this President will lead this country out of the hole it was in before he was elected the first time.

Stay tuned it will only get better..

I guess this statement could be accurate:

"The Metro is an investment in education it will ease the traffic and provide a fast efficient way for the students and teachers to get to their classes and also get home at a decent hour."

if the classes are going to be conducted in the subway cars, since there are not enough classrooms , desks or electricity in the few classrooms that exist.

I highly doubt that education videos will be played in the metro. however i do think that, President beer ads, will take up that slot. DR needs less drinking and more thinking

Still the metro is a good idea

You guys are brilliant!

You have discovered a new pedagogy; a blending of education and the metro to create "METRUCATION."

Long live METROLANDIA!

Josean: very distressed comments, I guess You feel like a little kid with all this excitement.

Don't know IF You know already, there is another line on the way for the Metro>

Guess 10 years from now how people in Latin America and worldwide will see our capital,
most likely modern, like a exciting city.

That's great many people believe the D.R. is such a backward country, but in many sectors the country is showing growth and progress, although theirs still a lot of work to do. But remember theirs no such thing as a perfect country.

Ah, not a perfect country, but we have a perfect president. Intellectually above all 9,000,000 Dominicans.

No one capable of debating him, El Jefe has reincarnated!

Lie-onel Fernandez "Presidente" for life and then some!
