ANSE-A-PITRE, Haiti. – As part of its long-term objective to develop a permanent humanitarian intervention at Haiti’s border communities, the Batey Relief Alliance (BRA) dispatched from April 12 through 19, a team of American dentists, faculty, students and aides to provide free dental assistance to children and adults in dire need of urgent dental care in Haiti’s border community of Anse-a-Pitre.

Anse-a-Pitre is located on the Northeast tip of the island of Hispaniola across to Pedernales in the Dominican Republic. The Anse-a-Pitres’ population of about 30,000 lives in extreme poverty due to its isolation from much government as well as international economic support. Basic services are virtually absent, including potable water, electricity and healthcare living residents in a complete state of abandonment and vulnerable to diseases.

Dr. Thomas Beague, BRA’s Dental Chief and mission leader confirmed that a total of 414 patients received full treatment and more than 600 teeth were pulled. All patients received anesthesia, pain medication, and antibiotics when necessary. Children from 2-10 also received antiparasitic medicines to rid them of intestinal worms and multivitamins to boost their immune system—an effort sponsored by BRA partner, Vitamin Angel Alliance.

BRA joined forces with two local youth groups—AJPA and DJMM to organize the one-week dental clinic’s logistics. “Our initial efforts focused on a large-scale publicity campaign, which included radio interviews, posters and announcements in churches and community organizations throughout Anse-a-Pitre,” said Ulrick Gaillard, BRA’s CEO.

Dr. Beague added, “Our team included four dentists (Dr. Steve Ricco, Dr. Ilha Kim, Dr. Adam Merrian and myself), four dental assistants (Sara Beague, Diana M. Beague, Thomas J. Beague and Kathy Delva) and one mission coordinator (Samuel D. Slavin) who worked tirelessly to serve as many people as we could, even though there were many more in need of treatment that did not get a chance to be seen. But we will come back next spring.”

Nostagia
I always used to dream of the past
Bou like they say yesterday never comes
So I look up the sky
And I wonder what it will be like in days gone by
As I sit and bathe in the wave of nostalgia for a age yet to come ...

"Anse-a-Pitre is located on the Northeast tip of the island of Hispaniola across to Pedernales in the Dominican Republic."

Whoever wrote this sentence does not geographic! Anse a Pitre is not at the northeast tip of Hispaniola. It is next to Pedernales (southwest of DR or southeast of Haiti).

Everyone knows that many illegals cross over from AnseaPitre to Jimani without any geographical or human barriers. Similarly, from Hinche to Las Caobas. Etc.

Por supuesto Y CLARO QUE SI ! i HAVE VERY LITTLE PREDJUDICE when it comes to las mujeres de la isla ...But in many ways , the Haitian women out class the Dominican gals and they are generally more intelligent ( if not cheaper ) ... Get back to me after you've had one of them whisper the language of love to you in French ( or french criole) for 2 hours under the sheets and see if she doesnt melt in your mouth...Even if it is just for your wallet .lol lol

For the record , i am in no way advocating this practice or lifestyle...I am merely sharing my experience even if it sounds otherwise. Opening Pandoras box was a huge mistake for me and though Ive been forgiven and delivered from that lifestyle the consequences have been , still are , and remain to be seen .. Ten Cuidado !

B,
When I spend $200 for dinner I am pretty sure that there will be action that night LOL.... There are some gold diggers in DR but you just have to make the right choice. I have had a few that want $$$ a week after you start going out, they never get a phone call from me agian. I did get lucky because my fiancee is not like that she does not care if I have $$$ or not. So I think that it depends on the girl and how she was looks at life. I have had a ton of Haitian girls that have thrown themselves at me but I never had the tiime due to so many Dominican girls after me.

I dont want to disminuish the dominican but let me tell you some truths about what is said about you. Many people recognize that your economy is really good. Your leaders have improved the overall living standards and have made a lot of progress. But it s said that you guys don t have anything inside . Of course there are exeptions. But many dominicans seem to not even have a soul . All your progress seems to have been done by foreigners.Nearly all the touristics businesses are for spaniards or other foreigners. They say that in fact , few dominicans have made something for humanity ; that all major things that your claim to be yours are in fact spanish acomplishments as is the famous " zona colonial" , or Altos de Chavon en casa de campo buided by a cuban-american . Well me I think everyone is important. But I think that even if the haitian ilegals are a reaally big porblem, other imigrants are even worse as the use your country as a criminal escondite, a drug dealers paradise ,etc.

No Paul , I think you meant to say that 80% of the Haitian prostitutes are working and living in the D.R as well as all the Haitian men working as popi chulo lambones for the Dominican girls in the tourist zones..Not only that , but very few Dominican women can speak Criole , but the majority of Haitian women living in the D.r speak Spanish , and they speak it better than most Dominican women can...I would love for you to prove that statistic to me if you dare.. But I do agree with you that it is a toxic shame and sin that so many men and women are using poor undeveloped countries for nothing more than some third world fantasy island disney world of pleasure.. And yet , THE DOMINICANS AND YOUR PEOPLE ARE JUST AS GUILTY for using and exploiting the wealthy white people for your next free lunch or trip across the ocean,,, Whatever the motive is , 90 % OF THE TIME, the one with the wallet gets the better end of the deal.

Well Bailarin , I have to search the real percentage of Haitian prostitutes operating in the DR. I ll do my homework. But what I can tell you is that since I was a kid, it has been known that dominican women were prostitues in Haiti. I swear it. In Petion-VIlle or Jacmel or Carrefour (back in the days) nearly all strip club and so called "maison-close" have dominican prostitues working for them. Well they say some have been forced to do this job . But I have talked a lot with many of them and they told me that it was more lucrative for them doing this in haiti. As it can be more lucrative for haitan prostitutes to operate in DR. I wont say there are not haitian ps in your country .But in mine they occupy most of the market. Look at these links :

Xwill7 : yes "amigo" it s a shame to see how people are treated as animals and lose their humananity because of poverty , Could you imagine your own daughter or mine or your cousin s ,having to do that to eat and feed her children or to pay bills or medical fees...?
Anybody , instead of using his energy in talking BS or havinr resentment, hate or any other useless feeling or attitude should think about thos poor people and imagine it would be it was someone in their own family. Or even they were them having to do that. Its a shame for all unman kind !

No xwill7 I can t.As I said befor , my purpose is not to say that we can make any comparison. In the time you guys couldn t either. Thats not my point. If you want to do this type of superficial comparison, go on. I ll lose. The political situation in my beloved country made the tourism industry , (wich was the best back in the 50s-60s-70s) to collapse. But are the foreigner s investments in a country a creiteria to measure their people s value? If it is. Than we should not even try to talk anymore . But let me ask you a little question my friend What major things have dominicans ever made in the wolrd history (besides taking their freedom from Haiti )? I am talking aboute pure dominican action.

My friends in fact , I dont think there is any real 5 star hotel in Haiti. But I can tell you that Haiti , for real is one of the safest place to go as a tourist. The press is manipulated. They make people think a lot of BS about Haiti . The main reason is that because of our past, haitian have always been defensive toward foreignrs.SO investments in Haiti have been limited for decades. Meanwhile in other countries they accpted it. And Haiti was the richest country of the region (Caribbean) Haiti has one of the greates history and culture of the world .So many big financial groups interests in the region needed to break haitian tourism industry so that their investments could not be affected ,as in Haiti they dont have such interests. That s why they make people think bs about my country , Of course there is a lot of true in what they say. Bout they also hide you nearly any good thing about my beautiful country. I ll send you some links so that you can see by yourself on youtube.

Well guys, I don t pretend to tell you that Haiti nowadays is what it was . I am not trying to compare our countries .We have a lot more poverty in mine. We are the poorest country of this hemisphere considering what is said in the statistics or other stuffs like that. But I d like you to OPEN YOUR MIND.
And of couse, lol on youtube you can also find some videos of poverty in Haiti. While some people like to expose our problems because they win prizes with that, and because when they see the poorest people in my country they feel proud of theirs. lol

LOL. I asked a real question. What is the best way to get in our out of Haiti?
Written by: Paul1, 24 Apr 2009 4:15 PM

It depends on what you can afford. There are three major bus comanies connecting Haiti and DR : Caribe tour, Terra bus, and Capital Coach Line. One pass costs nearly 40 to 45 us$ and you could be charged like 100 gourdes and 5 us$ at the border. This trip takes like 7 hours.
By plane you make the same trip within one hour and a Half I think . It costs near twice the bus price.

I dont know by boat. For myslef when I visit your country I take my private car or the Bus, because I like to see the countryside. Now of course if you want to talk about the illegals ways to do it , I don t know which way they use.But I know there is a lot of corruption in your "CESFRONT" allowing all those illegals going there too . SO a lot of them may be just cross the border by walking in or crossing the Lac Azuei also called "Etang Saumatre"

Paul1 asked: "But let me ask you a little question my friend What major things have dominicans ever made in the wolrd history (besides taking their freedom from Haiti )?"

Well, for starters, a dominican general, the banilejo Maximo Gomez, was the one to single-handledly liberate Cuba from the spanish feeble grasp. And, if God wills it, the archaeologist Kathleen Martinez will find the resting place of queen Cleopatra. If those are not accomplishments for you, then I don't what they are.
