Santo Domingo.– Baseball lovers may extend the season by visiting the Dominican Republic to watch Winter League baseball, which runs from October to February and includes a six-team league, complete with a national championship and an international tournament.

The Caribbean League Series was held in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Feb. 2 to 7. Players included 2002 American League Most Valuable Player Miguel Tejada, former Rookie of the Year Rafael Furcal and other major leaguers and prospects.

The weeklong trip included attending four baseball games, a visit to Las Palmas, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Dominican training academy, and batting practice at Estadio Quisqueya, the professional baseball stadium in the capital city of Santo Domingo.

If you go to the baseball games early, you can walk down to the fan area near the field. The players are more accessible than in the United States. They are willing to talk to the fans and sign autographs.

The poential talent in the DR, not counting the MLB re-threads, is so deep and wide that the Winter League can grow into something really big if part of the baseball media to follow it.

If the Winter League jumps from time to time into Cuba and take on the boys in red, the baseball media and the capitalist media will follow it.

But the Cuban American lunatics and garbage ... trying selfishly to hustle Cuban players for latter contract signings ... will likely prevent the occurrence of games that will most benefit the growth of the Winter League.

I believe there are about 10 teams in Santiago de Cuba alone that handle anything the Winter league throws at them.

Cuban-Winter League will, of course, be censored by the whole US capitalist media.

But there is a chance that media outlets in DR, Cuba, Panama, Venezuela, and Nicaragua will cover the games.

Finally, there is a long shot that a media outlet in Canada may cover such games.

Give the Cubans a chance to play outside their country. Yes, Yes, Yes....They will all defect. Yes, Yes, Yes...

What would guarantee major US network coverage would be if the defecting players (probably all of them) would allow themselves to be miked. A new reality show.....Escape from Hell......

oooo

Some countries run from the Cuban baseball players on the diamond unless these countries can rig the games, as their Cuban American mafia bosses order.

If the Winter League plays in Santiago de Cuba either in the inital game or a later rematch, the Cubans will happily play in Santiago, DR.

Everything depends on whether the Cuban American mafia bosses order the Winter League to run with its tail hanging.

Look at how Cuba has been discriminated against in the Classic schedule venues while a disgusting and filthy city like Miami has been recognized.
