Santo Domingo.– "The fans know and the Cardinals know that I want to be a Cardinal for my whole career," Pujols told WXOS-FM yesterday. "I love this city. The way that this city has embraced me and my family."

Pujols, who has one year left on his contract plus an option year, raised some eyebrows with his comments during an interview with a Dominican radio station earlier this month.

"I'm not desperate to sign a contract extension. I still have one year remaining in my contract for 2010 and a club option for 2011. I leave the rest in God's hands," Pujols said.

Yesterday, the two-time National League MVP he reiterated that there is no rush but "if they come tomorrow and say: 'Albert, you know, we want to lock you up,' hey they know that we're open to that."

Albert Pujols quote........." "What I told those people was 'Listen, why do people keep talking about my contract when I still have two years (left) on my contract? We don't have to worry about it.' You know the Cardinals need to worry about signing Matt Holliday and all the free agents. There's no rush for me to sign right now, you know? But if they come tomorrow and say 'Albert, you know, we want to lock you up,' hey, they know that (I'm) open to that."

St Louis is practically his hometown and the fans love him and his family ......There is more to life than squeezing a few more pesos out of an organization that has been good to him and is considered one of the best places to play in America ....Good for Don Alberto he is the real deal

If I were Albert I'd be weary, these organizations are out to make money, period. There is no such thing as loyalty in business, anymore at least.

If he starts slumping the cardinals will drop him like a fly, no if and's or maybe's.

So in light of this he should tread carefully, and ensure that he has a good long term contract.

And that is why I don't blame Manny, in this game you only last about 20 years (20-40 y.o.) after that then what? The ballclub will always make infinitely more than any individual player can make and the majority of owners/GM's/coaches will drop any and all contacts/loyalties when those key stats start sliding.

I understand that the Cardinals are a good organiztion but still he has to look out for number 1, and thats himself.

You dont blame manny for punching out the 65 year old trainer for not getting him more tickets you dont blame manny for being a druggy or quitting on his team mates .......Albert Pujols does not need any advice from you save it for your children

Albert Pujols says and means.......
"I love this city. The way that this city has embraced me and my family, I don't think other cities do that. And when you hear all of the players that come around to this town and say, 'You guys are lucky that you are playing in St. Louis,' we have the best fans. I want to be a Cardinal for the rest of my career."..............................I guess that means he is not a greedy pig like manny who is depised by most of his teammates and people who know him as a self centered narcissistic swine

Didn't Pedro Martinez do the same thing to Don Zimmer? Is he swine?

Steroid usage is rampant all over baseball, again let the authorities MLB & Sen. Mitchell handle that and if you feel that the game isn't pure anymore then stop watching it.

The point is the MLB is a business and no one is out to make friends everyone is here to make money!!!!!!

I would think that such an avid right winger such as yourself would know this?

What I state is the truth whether you like it or not.

I nor anyone else apparently care about the personal life of the player. As long as their stats are good and fans keep buying jerseys and tickets everyone is happy. Let your stats slide and you can be the nicest person in the world and no team would want you, FACT!!!

tell that to the Nagua nitwit who ran over those women and that pitcher for the Mets shot the guy for sitting on his bar stool .....you cannot compare what manny the dirt ball did because he did not get enough tickets for his entourage to what happened to Martinez and Zimmer......tell your kids your concept of ethics and morality maybe they can get elected in DR politics .....you dont care about anyones personal life as long as they have money and a goofball attitude because you are a moral bankrupt .........no wonder there are so many baseball losers in and from the DR from Corky to Danny Almonte etc etc etc

First off, thanks for resorting to name calling, and instigating. That says a lot about your high morals.

Second, your right-wing morals are what had one of your members in an airport bathroom soliciting homosexual prostitution?
"Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho was apprehended June 11 by a plainclothes police officer investigating complaints of lewd behavior in an airport men's room."

Or the extra-marital affairs where the excuse was to go to the Appalachian trails, please spare me your B.S.
"South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, just back from a secret trip to Argentina unknown to his staff or his wife, admitted Wednesday he has carried on an extramarital affair with a woman in Buenos Aires, Argentina."

Criminals should be persecuted period!!!

But don't tell me that US businesses or any Corporation for that matter are out to make the world a better place and uphold moral values. That is total BS and if you believe it keep drinking the kool aid!

Now getting back on topic, this is why Pujol's should try securing a long term contract.

There is no doubt that he is clean ( I truely hope! only time will tell), and no doubt a sound baseball player, which is why he more than any other athlete deserves a good contract.

And again I will reiterate that although I don't agree with manny's off field behavior, he is with out a doubt a great ball player, it is unfortunate he felt the need to use a banned substance. And I am fully behind him or any ball player from any race, creed or religion to milk these very wealthy baseball organizations for as much money as possible.

Just as wall street CEO's do! If they produce and their company does well they are rewarded (which is why the GOP is fundamentally against the gov't telling TARP companies to cap bonuses). So a la republican MAnny can say pay up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats the problem with republicans they are like a bunch of priest's running around preaching celebance to everyone and morality meanwhile they're screwing the alter boys.

Go figure!?

It has nothing to do with being gay and as you state not that there is anything wrong with that ( I watch Seinfeld too), it's just this notion that everyone should "do as i say not as i do" crap.

Don't even bring Hitler into the equation. thats laughable although, with some upfront condolences to the Jews, the guy did a good job economically speaking and made Britian and Chamberlain look like a bunch of sissy's. And again in WW2 the French were at the avant-guarde, because they were the ones that pummeled Germany into hyperinflation and when germany's war machine came a'kocking the french went a'running. jajajajjajaja.

And as far as I am concerned the Kennedy's and Capone are one in the same just that the former were smarter about their operation.

And please class? That argument has more holes than swiss cheese, you can do better tarsky. I've seen you in action against ABC.

Awe, no more tarsky?

i guess he no longer wants to play, I was having fun too.

I guess I'll have to play with him on the forum, I can pretend to be the commie and he can play the right-winger with all the class in the world. Then we can duke it out, jajajajajajajaja.

class is the difference between trash like Manny and guys who were raised properly with values like Pujols........Just because Albert does not flout the big shot bling with entourage and all like manny and basically grew up where he is playing in Independence Missouri does not mean he is unhappy .Do not judge by people like Manny or that other misguided dope A Rod neither will ever win a Clemente Award and el Corcho was a charlatan buffoon......He is probably another one of your get the money and run heroes

Oh yes the Midwest has good wholesome values, jajajaja.

So good that you got mormons with multiple wives and brain washed children, jajaja.

I as a commie of course don't have religion, of course mormons are good because they will help repopulate your beautiful beautiful land with blonde haired blue eyed children.

Why don't you see the benefit of this is beyond me, besides they are as protestants as much as evangelicals and baptists are; the make up of your brethren.

In fact the mormons can create an army of John smith worshipers combine that with the evangelical warriors of yours (aka KKK) and you can repopulate the couuuntre'. Drive out those damn mexicans too, jajajajajaja.

Your too easy tarsky.

Hi hat next you will be asking for reparations and quotas and all that acorn stuff ......please try to stay on subject ....which is Albert will accept less money than he can get elsewhere to be happy with his family in an environment he enjoys and nurtures him .....Now just because you want him to be some Hip Hop thug in NY or LA and he wants no part of that does not mean that he is being ripped off by the man . St Louis is famous as a great place to play and a great place to raise a family ....Belly Danny Almonte patron saint of birth certificates is just getting ready for Medicare he will qualify next year

blu,
it might not be about the money for pujols, but I know that he wants another world series victory. If the cardinals slump next year and he feels that they are going no where fast then he might sign somewhere else where he feels that he will have a better shot at the title.
He can live in st louis and play for another team

Also, if the cubs come back and have no injuries, they should win the division. the cards might have to win the wild card

yes, its been a tease with the cubs. last year was the worst after having that great record and then getting swept in the first round. But we have a new owner and this guy might change things around. The tribune company treated the cubs like a business... they did not care about winning just filling seats. The place gets full every game because of the night life and bars around the stadium. The new owner said that he will run it like a family company and he is a life long fan.

If he is a true fan then I think he will run the team the right way.
Also, corky picked the wrong bat that day... lol
