New York.– Red Sox slugger David Ortiz yesterday insisted he had not used steroids and he began what amounted to an attempt to rebuild his reputation.

Ortiz, 10 days after he acknowledged his name was on a list of players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, said he had used over-the-counter supplements in his past, but insisted he had never taken steroids.

“I definitely was a little bit careless back in those days when I was buying supplements and vitamins over the counter,’’ Ortiz said, adding later that he had been tested at least 15 times since 2003 and never tested positive. “Legal supplements, legal vitamins over the counter. But I never buy steroids or use steroids.’’

Ortiz’s remarks amounted to first extended response to a July 30 New York Times report that he was on the list of 104 players who had tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs after a 2003 survey test. The Times did not specify what drugs were detected in the test.

Hey, this is just another one bites the dust. There are 3 things that ball players tell each other. Places to eat in the cities they visit. Women to screw in those cities and anything that can make them hit and pitch better (can you say hollow bat).

David can play stupid, but all these guuys knew what they were doing, they could tell. How come you never see any interviews from the 1990-2003. Where they made mention of I take this to get stronger. Just mangu etc. If it was not wrong why hide it.
They were led astray, but I would call it nudged. Since they also noted the improvement in their bodies and performance.

Well, " Say it ain't so Shoeless Joe"

The Asters for $300 Alex. SOSA, CLEMENS, PALMEIRO, RODRIGUEZ & BONDS?
Who are astericks in the BB hall of fame Alex..

More embarrassment for the Dominican at home and abroad! Dominican are also testing positive in AAA, AA, and even single A. Cheating, risk to health, and defamation are not good ways to make a name for yourself and, at the same time, destroy the sport as a business!

David should be a real man and admit his error and poor judgment, then get on with his life.

This is a repeat of the Sammy Sosa debacle which, sadly, embarrassed us all.

A-Rod was almost man enough to admit publicly he used banned substances. That doesn't make it right, but it's a good start towards the healing process.

These are all people who attained impressive accomplishments by cheating, and the record should reflect that fact. They diminished the integrity of the game and the faith of fans everywhere.

Their actions cannot go on with impunity. They should all be banned from induction into the hall of fame; if not forever, then definitely in their lifetime. Furthermore, while active, they should be banned without pay for at least a year.

Which Dominican name will be next to be released? Seems like they like to release the Dominican names first.
I really hope that Puljos, Pedro, Soriano, A. Ramirez, Hanley, Marmol, Cruz and Pena are not on the list
