Santo Domingo.– 3G services will finally be introduced by Dominican mobile network operator Orange Dominicana at an expenditure of USD25 million in the beginning of February.

This will help the users to connect to the ‘Orange Net 3G+’, which will offer download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps.

Initially, the network will only be available in Santo Domingo, Santiago and Bavaro but the service will be extended to the other areas within 12 months.

The announcement has been officially made by Orange after a number of rumors in the Dominican press that Orange had been testing 3G networks.

The people of the Dominican Republic need more cell phone competition as soon as possible. The current cell phone service prices are OUTRAGEOUSLY HIGH in the D.R. and they need to come down a lot and fast. The people need to demand from there cellular providers to lower the prices NOW. Everyone needs to call their cellular provider now and tell them that they want lower prices NOW.

Claro is a monster company,Codetel. The wireless internet service in punta cana sucks! The signal is so poor that in one hour you will have to reconect up to 6 times. Forget about video too. It's just too damn slow. I have to pay 100% of the monthly bill for 50% of service.

Now about Orange, I could never pay my monthly bill without trying to 3 to 4 times. Their computer systems were always down. Try to ask the employees a question, not. They're all children, the only training they have is to charge the customer and if the customer doesn't have the exact amount he can't pay because they never have change. The only reason these sorry companies are successful is because a cell phone represents status in this culture.
Service is an alien word here.

Easy Rider, you hit the nail on the head

Orange employees are no more than 21 years old. The same goes for Tricom, his CEO was no more than 32, of course, he was the elder son of Peyerano's family.

That's the problem in DR, they are looking for turkeys fresh out of collegue so they can pay them penis on the dollar.

Josean, I don't eat tapioca, but I am sure you had your ration of boiled green papaya from a Dominican conuco you and your Hatian buddies stole from across the border.

Just make sure that old Arenque you have hanging from the roof with a nylon string gets 2 dips in the locrio before the boiling water dries out from the Caldero.
