Madrid.– The World's Most Beautiful Flag Contest, an unofficial competition created by a user on 20minutos.es, has received hundreds of thousands of votes since it began in the beginning of June.

The contest began with 104 flags, eliminating the five flags with the least votes every two days. The competition is coming to an end and is now in its final stage. The last week of voting has begun and users across the world are chossing their favorite flags.

The final ten flags remaining are Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Guatemala and Puerto Rico.

Dominican Republic's white and blue flag has been in the top ten almost the entire contest and many Dominicans are eager to see it win.  It is currently ranked number four with almost 54,000 points. Mexico is ranked number one with nearly 193,000 points.

"this contest is for people with more time than brains"

Stop being such a sour puss. It's a harmless contest for God's sake.

I remember a co-worker of mine, a young lady of russian extraction, passing by my desk at work and commented on how beautiful the Dominican flag on my desk was. After thanking her I had to agree. The Dominican flag is beautiful:)

Its ironic how it was spawned from the Haitian flag - in turn spawned from the French.
Of course the Haitians wanted to cut the white out of theirs - who can blame them.

Its a pretty flag though, but I'd like to delete that over complicated skid mark upon the middle of it.
Any flag containing the bible needs a serious rethink.
The civil flag however is beautiful.

Ei diablo..can some of you give it a rest for at least one goddamn thread? Not everything has to be turned into a dominico-haitian issue...the article was about a flag contest!...Eso esta hasta aburriendo a uno ya.

Chicos,

our flag could come in LAST, and I would not love it any less or more than if it comes in first!!! The thing is not about being first, its about having a flag that represents a fair, just, human society. Well, we're working toward that goal. Until then, I still love my Flag, but I love it more when we treat every human being in the DR with dignity; when the wealth of the corripios, vincinis, and all the other huele-fundillos who keep our country in their pocket is distributed to the poor campesinos, the stuents in the UASD, the Small-medium shop-owners, the people struggling in barrios and bateyes. When all that wealth is taken and a capable, transparent, democratic, and representative government provides all the public services people need to live a safe and decent life. That's when my love for my flag will incrase more than what it is.

This contest is fun, but it should not take us away from the struggle to build a better society!

Baldoria, I'm not for wealth distribution but their's nothing wrong with wanting a "fair, just, (and) human(e) society". All Dominicans should strive for such a thing.

LOL YOU PEOPLE can't do anything without the Name Haitian popping up. Even your Flag has our names all over. I guess when you do win that competition if you do I hope they do I want some dominican to stand up on national Television and tell the rest of the world how they came up with the most beautiful flag in the world without mentioning Haiti. I want to see how they plan on doing that. I want DR to win this stupid flag contest so I can say you only won it because of US Haitians we gave you that flag. LOL lol lol lol take that.

rom1804:"You mean the Haitians have a beautiful Flag."

You mean the French have a beautiful flag. I mean, that's the source from where you took yours, isn't it so, rom? Vive la France. LOL

I think that this fact is all the more poignant when you consider the fact that you're currently sharing a flag with the city of Paris (sans the coat of arms): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris

In short, rom, as the saying goes: "Ladron que le roba a ladron, tiene cien años de perdón".

Most if not all flags that bear the colors and various combinations of either red, blue, and white are beautiful. There is just something about those colors that make it so visually attractive. The flag of the Netherlands, French tricolor, Haitian flag, Dominican flag, Costa Rican, Belizean, Cuban and Puerto Rican, Panamanian flags all are appealing.
