Santo Domingo.- The actress Michelle Rodriguez said she always wanted to work in a Dominican production and will be a challenge to play the role of Minerva Mirabal, considered the head of the three famous sisters martyred by the Trujillo dicatorship.
Rodriguez, who is also a producer of the film, held her first press conference to speak about her performance as Minerva in the movie "Tropico de Sangre," which will be filmed in Santiago (north).
She said her performance seeks to convey an encouraging, positive and liberating message for the youth and wants Hollywood to consider Dominican Republic as a place to produce films.
The film would portray another view of the many facets of Dominican life during Trujillo’s tyranny, Rodriguez said. "I want to project a different perspective of the situation involving people, culture, the streets, all the things were needed to express what took place at that time."
Celines Toribio Mceed the event in Santo Domingo’s Hard Rock Cafe, with the participation of the producer Joan Giacinti and the screenwriter John Delancer.

write, read and speak perfectly, I did call you ignorant, perhaps should not have said that word,
since I don't know who you are,
but you can prove it easily,.,of course if you are American and do not seek help else where,
can you write in my Language, Spanish, the same way I write in yours?,
however, knowing Americans, do not expect a fair response from you.
from some American calling them, and I quote,
Minerva Mirabal a heroine?
More like a rich spoiled brat who's family wanted a bigger piece of the pie.
If you Goulet call that civility, then you are as much an accomplish of words that are out of place, and with the upmost lack of respect as I have ever read in this forum,
and further comparing these names to others as Hitler, Stalin and the man that said to kill them,
Trujillo is an infamy,
I was wrong with you Goulet, and others that refute your words here are the ones who in the end have the bigger civility.
you should know I despise the left type of government in any form,
but I am conscient of those years of the Trujillo regime, I lived those years of the 50's,
with relatives that were Generals, Governors, but also others that were tortured and killed
by the tirany,
so you know where I am coming from.
about those years, where the SIM, (SERVICIO DE INTELIGENCIA MILITAR) VW's cars were going down all street of town and cities, 5 miles an hour terrorizing whoever was in their way,
WHOEVER DID NOT LIVE THOSE YEARS OF TERROR,
HAVE NO RIGHT TO ACCUSE AND DENIGRATE NO PERSON KILLED BY THE TIRANY.
"English, which I can
write, read and speak perfectly,"
You could have fooled me!
Quizá si usted parara el tener miedo de ver que hay 2 lados o más a cada historia usted no sería tan defensivo.
As I thought, whoever told you how to write those words in Spanish must have certainly be,.
as you call it, a Dominican-yor,
maybe I have fooled you, who knows, Americans are addicted to being fooled,
only thing you do well, is scream for everything, pure savages.
Defensive?
perhaps, I defend from people who have no knowledge of things of my country, who did not lived
those times as I did, I have to, I am Dominican, and proud to be,
and those women your words denigrated stupidly, were a symbol of resistance to the tirany,
but then again, what the heck you know about that,, except for reading some words.
I do not tolerate people who think have the rights to abuse verbally of others,
moreover , being citizens of USA, not Americans as you called yourselves,
America is a big continent, not a country.
by the way, if you use the term Dominican-yor as a mockery,
that's why we call your kind gringos in Latin America,
besides, if you despise the Dominican-yor so much,
what the heck are you doing married to a Dominican woman?
if she has some sense, she should feel embarrased of your words toward other Dominican women, that happens to be assasinated 50 years ago, using some despicable words to speak
about them.
but then again, only a fool American is capable of that infamy, so I understand you well,
believe me, most of you have not the mental capacity of doing things properly, and need to be
continuosly importing brains, (which most screaming savages, belly full of beer, don't have).
Why don't you join Belail for a group hug and a circle jerk?
You blind faith in all things anti-Trujillo is amusing at best. Just because a person was against the dictatorship of Trujillo does not mean they are automatically eligible for sainthood. Juan Bosch was anti-Trujillo. Does that make him great?
So go back an refresh your take on history the way you usually do...Playing Dominos at the Colmado under your apartment.
By the way. The most precious freedom is the freedom of speech. Apparently you are for freedom of speech only when it jibes with your beliefs.
One other thing. You are lucky that this is an internet message board. If it had been face to face I would have never allowed you to finish that statement about my wife. But what can you expect from a chopo.
and you are so dumb you cannot even see I am also exercising my (as you claim it,)
freedom of speech, and refute your words about anything,
you call me chopo you ignorant,
I call you red neck , the classic big belly full of beer screaming fool, too classic white American,
and for your information, I am a mechanical engineer, what are you?
only thing I said was if you despise chopos, Dominican-yor,
what are you doing married to a Dominican woman?
guess that drew your attention, fool.
and apparently you have not get it, last thing in the world I am is anti-gringo,
or anti-anybody for that matter,
I am just responding to an issue I consider sensible,
you refuse too to see it the way I do ? , then that is your privilege, as is mine to answer back
to words that in my view are insulting and with a lack of class and taste,
and that would include you, if you would be the one saying such words,
that man AnthonyC, said also what he wanted and posted his words here,
does he expect not to have anybody answering hard back at him???
that is his problem as well, if you attack without mercy people that have been dead for a long time,
and were a symbol of resistance along with their husbands,
somebody is going to hit back at him, in this case it was myself,
lucky you it was not you.
as far as I remember, I have not posted my last name here,
what Anthony doesn't know yet is, that we are somehow similar cases in a way,
he is married to a Dominican woman,
I am married to an American woman,
ironic huh?,
therefore, how could I ever be, anti-American ?,
she is the best woman I have ever met, of any race or country,
and I am what you could call a "white" Dominican, although we all know that somewhere
along the line, we all have some shadows one way or another.
She is from a fine, white Family with European roots.
While you hang around your local colmado sucking down cheap rum and saying nasty things to young girls as they pass by I play golf at the county club Santo Domingo (El Country) and sip single malts.
Redneck huh? Too Funny. Next time in back in Spain or Portugal I'll be sure to tell that to my family. they would get a kick out of it.
I am going to end this thing with you, this feud is getting ugly as it goes on and on,
funny too, I have been a member of the Santo Domingo Country Club forever,
funny also, my grandfather was Portuguese, and my mother is from Barcelona, Spain,
pure Catalan, so what do you know?,
you are married to a fine white Dominican woman of European roots,
I am married to a fine white American woman of European roots, who I adore,
so what do you say and we sign a peace agreement?,
if I ofended you with my reaction to your words, will all sincerity,
I apologize to you, there is no need for this,
I am not what you called me, as I am sure you are not either a red neck,
now that things are getting more clear, we do have too much bonds in common as you can see.
and another thing, I have never as long as I have lived, and will be 63 shortly,
have been hanging around in colmado with chopas, and sipping down cheap rum,
wrong brother, you are talking to the wrong man with that statement,
I only drink Scotch and 12 years or older, and wine of course.
Also, I do play golf and a lot, or as much as I can, my handicap is 7.
my reaction to your words was for a simple reason,
my father, who was a prominent doctor and die in a plane crash, knew the Mirabal family
very well, and also their husbands, therefore I reacted defensively to those words,
but in reality, who doesn't always want a piece of whatever pie is there?
one thing though, and I know this well, they did opossed the Trujillo regimen vigorously.
now if you decide to be uncivilized, then that's up to you,
I have send an olive branch to you,, there is no need for this,
everybody have a right to their own opinion.
but not all people who opossed Trujillo were communist at all,
some were simple patriots who wanted a better country against all the crimes and terror
occurring in my country.
Great. You admit I was right.
Funny though. Most of the US's founding fathers lost their wealth due to their neglect of their financial situations while battling for the greater good.
you mentioned when you go back to Spain and Portugal, would mention the nick name I called you and they would get a kick,
nonetheless, what are you finally?, because I cannot believe you have Spaniards roots,
LOL...I see you, too, have noticed my matinee star looks goulet...LOL..I'm just kidding people.
If they're going to make a movie about the Mirabal sisters fine...let's hope it's better then that crap that Salma Hayek put out a few years ago. Edward James Olmos was a horrible Trujillo to boot. I always felt that Anthony Quinn would've been a great Trujillo but unfortunately he is no longer an option.
A fine white woman with european roots?...lolololol..who the hell talks like that?..lol..I'm still laughing...
On a similiar note the worst depiction of a Dominican on the silver screen has to be the character of "Peoples" in the Hughes brothers film "Shaft". Talk about walking stereotypes. I cringe every time I see it.
How about Manny Perez?..Maybe he could pull it off..
Interestingly enough Raul Julia was supposed to star in some play about Ramfis Trujillo playing the starring role but he opted out at the last minute due to his freindship with Rhadames Trujillo, another son of Trujillo who was killed a few years back by Colombian druglords.
Ramfis Trujillo...now there's an interesting movie if you ask me..
Side note: Novak was initially asked by her studio to change her last name because no one wanted to see movies starring "some polack". Novak, who is actually of Czech descent, refused.
No matter what she still has two classics under her belt, namely "Vertigo" and "The Man With the Golden Arm"....I watch "Vertigo" myself at least once every year or so..
