Well, anthonyC, if you care to read the official casualties and losses stats, you'll have to recognize that the brits were giving the americans the ass kicking of their lives:
American side: 2,260 KIA; 4,505 Wounded; 4,535 Killed from Disease; 500 Civillans Dead; Total-11,700
British side: 1,600 KIA; 3,679 Wounded; 3,321 Killed by disease or weather; Total-8,600

P.S.: The brits were giving the americans some whooping despite the fact of being overstretched, having the majority of their army already committed fighting on the european front (Napoleonic Wars).
