Santo Domingo.– The Story of Merengue, a performance of five legends of Dominican popular music, is scheduled for the United Palace Theater in Manhattan, New York, on October 4.

Joseito Mateo, Frank Cruz, Francis Santana, Vinicio Franco and Cuco Valoy, accompanied by the Super Orquestra San Jose conducted by Papa Molina, will also perform in Lawrence and Revere in Massachusetts, Providence in Rhode Island, Newark, Bronx and Queens.

According to Diario Libre, they would fill the space left by the original Buena Vista Social Club members, the late Cuban son stars Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Eliades Ochoa and Omara Portuondo, who rose to international fame late in life as part of Ry Cooder's Buena Vista Social Club in the late 1990s.

I met Millie last year in Times Square, She's a very nice down to earth woman. I told her I first heard of her when she was with Los Vescinos. (That's gotta be more than 20 years ago!)
