Santo Domingo.– The Barcelo Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic announces the completion of an extensive renovation to its public spaces, guest rooms, and outdoor recreation areas including the addition of a new pool, a new children's pool with slides and fountains, a new spa and a new theater facility.

This $14 million dollar renovation project makes this beachfront, all-inclusive property a Premium level hotel within the Barcelo portfolio and upgrades the guest experience to a luxury resort level.

Guests can now enjoy a second large swimming pool and its adjacent children's play pool that is decorated with animals and water slides. In addition, there is a new Tex-Mex restaurant, El Mirador, which is a Beach Front Grill with indoor and outdoor seating adjacent to the new swimming pool area.

The all-inclusive resort offers a total of 795 guest rooms. All of the 300 deluxe category guestrooms enjoy ocean views and have just been renovated with new soft goods and plush bedding. These deluxe guestrooms feature a contemporary design, new furniture and flooring, and spa-style bathrooms with walk-in showers and freestanding fixtures. In addition, these guestrooms have all been fitted with flat screen TVs.

Guests may also enjoy wireless Internet service throughout the hotel and guestrooms for a small fee, and each guestroom has an oversized in-room safe large enough for valuables including a personal lap top computer.

The resort's theater has been rebuilt in a new location to serve as a multi-purpose venue for entertainment, group meetings and events. In addition, the new theater location creates a soundproof barrier between the theater and the guestrooms. The resort is handicap accessible with ramps throughout including all of the restaurants and new theaters.

The Spa "Metamorphosis" has been enlarged and now includes two hydrotherapy treatment rooms, three massage rooms, one "Vichy" shower, two saunas, two Jacuzzis and an excellent facility for special therapies. A beauty saloon is also available.

.... PS. As to the previous two persons statments.... in the 2 weeks at the Barcelo in 2007 and 2 weeks at the Paladium Palace in 2008, none of the nine persons saw any ''cochroaches'' other than the white two-legged kind, (yes, I'm white) . And as for reporting, neither is your comment. Perhaps both of you have other motives for posting. lonely perhaps, too much time on your hands, eh?

Congratulations to the Barcelo and it's staff!! Our first Dominican holiday was spent at the Barcelo, it and it's staff are the reason that we continue to enjoy our yearly visits to the Punta Cana area. Our stays have been very satisfying and have been fortunate enough to have met some of the local residents that we are proud to be able to call friends. We continue to plan our next visit as soon aqas we are on our way back home. Each year, we invite and are accompanied by more friends and family. Looking forward to Febuary 2009 in Punta Cana.
