Santo Domingo.- Keiry Marielle Calderon, 18, is the National District (Santo Domingo) candidate to the "Miss Dominican Tourism 2008 Pageant."

In a statement emailed to Dominican Today, the contestant said she's confident on her possibilities to win and that her main concern is the situation of children and seniors in our country, which needs to change for the better.

"Our society can offer guarantees and better opportunities to all its inhabitants, especially young people, who ultimately are the ones who shape the future of this nation,” Calderon said.

Help!!! why so many beauty pageants...every where you turn DR has another beauty pageant!!! I understand we are beautiful, but give me a break. It seems that is what we seem to be known for beauty pageants and baseball players ah and the worst of it all drug dealers.
I haven't heard of a dominican winning any academic field, (and please don't mention the pulitzer award that was recently awarded to the dominican from NJ, that does not really count, that was the 1st and it was man!
Some guys here say "dominican women very beautiful but very stupid...
