London.– New flights by British Airways to the Dominican Republic and other Caribbean destinations will mean an additional 2,000 seats to the region.

With increased frequency to St. Kitts, Grenada, Barbados and Bermuda scheduled for next summer and new flights from Gatwick to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and Montego Bay in Jamaica will offer an extra 2,000 seats a week to the Caribbean from Gatwick.

BA will operate a total 55 flights a week from London to the Caribbean, with 11 destinations served from Gatwick and three from Heathrow.

British Airways, which began flying into St. Kitts' Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in January, will begin a second scheduled flight in March 2010.

The airline claims to now provide more seats to the Caribbean from the United Kingdom than any other carrier. All the long haul flights are operated with Boeing 777 aircraft.

I have been two times in the UK in recent months and strangely have seen no advertising for travel to the DR in any magazine or newspaper or in any shop front and as I picked up a BA travel brochure there was only a very small mention of Punta Cana so I guess we are still behind the english speaking Caribbean countries as far as promotion is concerned .
And if you tried to find the Dominican travel office in London , I am prepared to bet you would be looking for a long long time ..we really should be a little more professional and energetic in the promotions of trade and travel to capitalise on the good initial steps taken by Leonel and Morales in particular

Ricky we dwarf the rest of the Caribbean as a tourist market ......all the hotel rooms in the English speaking Caribbean combined do not add up to 60 thousand .....the DR is #1 by a pretty large share in volume

On Nov. 7, 1917, Russia's Bolshevik Revolution took place as forces led by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin overthrew the provisional government of Alexander Kerensky.
