Port-au-Prince.– Protesters jammed
the streets of Haiti's capital Friday to mark the fourth anniversary of former
President Jean-Bertrand Aristide's ouster, with thousands marching
to the presidential palace to demand his return from
exile.
Supporters climbed hills and crossed bridges over
garbage-filled canals in the slums of Port-au-Prince, dancing and singing, "Our
blood is the blood of Aristide. We will not betray him!"
The peaceful crowd, estimated by police at 5,000,
also criticized President Rene Preval and the U.N. peacekeeping force that has
been in place since Aristide's departure, blaming them for rising food prices
and rampant unemployment.
Aristide, a former priest, escaped
a rebellion on Feb. 29, 2004, aboard a U.S.-supplied jet. He later accused the
United States of kidnapping him in a coup –a charge Washington denies. He now
lives in South Africa.

For 200 years, the US imperialists have alternatively and repeatedly overthrown, invaded, assassinated, couped, bombarded, destabilized or otherwise dominated Haiti and DR.
The year 1965 was the DR's turn to get raped by the US imperialists. Some Dominicans richly enjoyed the experience.
Feb. 2004, Haiti's.
When DR was last raped by the US imperialists in 1965, the imperialists supervised the slaughter of about 40,000 Dominicans, so-called "Communists" or "Communist suspects." Some Dominicans, as usual, were delighted by the massacre.
Between 2004 and 2006, the US imperialist-led occupation of Haitian occasioned the deaths of about 20,000 people. The Haitians cried and asked "Why?" has this evil visited us again?
The previous DR regime, a very dirty thing for both Haitians and Dominicans, helped the US imperialists rape Haiti in 2004.
Leonel has at tried to wipe some of the US imperial excrement off of the regime in Santo Domingo during his tenure, e.g. Iraq.

Jean-Bertrand Aristide was the second elected leader of Haiti and was loved by Haiti's poor citizens and hated by the filthy and slimy US imperialists led by G.W.Bush . Aristide was overthrown in a February 2004 by US imperialist-led assault disguised as a "Haitian rebellion" in which US intelligence agents led, and financed Haitian quislings ... among others, to attack the Aristide government.
US troops arrested Aristide on Feb. 24, 2004 and flew him to South African exile on a US Air Force plane. Neither the US troops nor US intelligence agents nor the US Air force plane were controlled by Haitian quislings.
With strings on US aid and other threats, despicable dictator, election-thief, unaccountable outlaw and liar "president" George W. Bush pressured Rene Preval not to let Aristide return to Haiti.
Reactionary scum from Canada and DR also participated in the Feb. 2004 overthrow of the elected Haitian government.
US imperialists often treats DR worse than Haiti.

George W. Bush, the election-thief, liar, and unaccountable outlaw who exercises supreme power over US people and territory, has already overthrown the US Government ... at least most of it ... before the Nov.7 2007 legislative elections which modestly re-established some balance.
The fact that Bush did not "violently overthrow" the US Government is immaterial. Bush peaceably overthrew the US Government.
The democratic priniciple of the exercise of power in accordance with the rule of law no longer exists in the USA. Bush does what he wants and tells the US people to kiss his behind.
The democratic priniciple of the accountability of the elected to the voters no longer exists in the USA. Bush tells Congress and the US people to kiss his behind if they disapprove of his policies.

Im not at all an Aristide fan but when a man is responsible for putting more children in school during his tenure than between the years of 1804-1990....You have to give that man some credit...Also when a super-power blocks the release of much needed aid, which was already approved by that nations banks....and thus decreases the value of the "Haitian Gourde" ten folds, is it his fault.......Ask yourself another question people, is Aristide responsible if the same super power trains a bunch of rebels to go and topple a "Democratically Elective Government" because the president was interested in getting his people out of poverty......huh?.. Is he responsible.

I was around for both Bebe Doc Duvalier and Aristide. What is not often said is how they fanned nationalistic flames.
Duvalier told us to remember the River Massacre, to hate the Dominican and that he would avenge us. He told us to remember lands that once were Haitian, to hate the Dominican and that he would get them back. (To get a mental picture, draw a line from Jimani to Azua).
Aristide had bigger targets. He said that he would get the world to help Haiti. International aid would reach every Haitian pocket. Our debts would be forgiven or paid off by the IMF, the World Bank, the UN, the USA, whatever. Food, as much food as we could eat would be given to us by the World Food Bank, or the USA. That didn’t happen, so he told us to remember the 150,000,000 gold francs that we paid France 200 years ago, to hate the French and that he would see to it that $21,685,135,571.48 (original amount + interest) would be paid back.
