Havana.– The Cuban government will officially lift restrictions on the retail sale to the general public of computers, television sets, video players and other electronic home appliances startingApril 1, when a "gradual" introduction of "retail" sales is to begin.

An Internal Trade Ministry resolution dated March 21 states that Cubans will be able to buy "computers and their accessories, video-playing equipment of all kinds, television sets in all screen sizes, electric pressure cookers, electric rice cookers, electric bicycles and car alarms."

The officials cited improvements in electricity supply as justification for the move, which represents the first visible change under the new leadership of President Raul Castro, who took over from his ailing brother, longtime revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, in February.

Restrictions currently make computers and appliances available only to certain people in Cuba, but not ordinary citizens.

The decision revoked an edict of June 2003, which forbad the commercialization of these products.

"The country has had an improvement in the generation and distribution of electric power," the document said.

The availability will be "gradual," subject to availability of the recently-allowed goods.

The new Panamanian Ambassador in Cuba, Luis Gomez, said Monday that Cuban teams have been stocking up on home appliances in Panama.

"There are two shipping companies that are bringing products from Panama and travel to Panama twice a week. Before they used to bring eight or 10 containers, now they are bringing 25, 30 or 40 containers," Gomez told reporters in Havana.

Raul Castro encouraged expectations of change in his inaugural speech on February 24, when he said he would move to end an "excess in prohibitions and rules" within the "coming weeks."

These reforms include the sale of some tools for farmers, which has already started in some provinces after only a passing mention on state radio.

Vague comments in the official media have indicated the direction of other possible changes - including more flexible migration rules or forbidding access to the island's luxury resorts by Cubans.

Utterly amazing!

At least the commies could blame the "embargo" what is Lie-onel's excuse?

oooo

Every Cuban home has, at least, one color TV.

The Cuban state provided the entire Cuban people about a 300,000 Chinese electric rice cookers and about 300,000 Chinese refrigerators in the 3-year old Energy Revolution.

Now that Venezuela manufactures and exports laptops, it makes sense to import them as well as Chinese versions without demanding hard currency or convertible pesos for payment.

Victory in the Energy Revolution explains the changes.

Another measure in the Energy Revolution is the substituting about 20,000,000 energy guzzling light bulbs in Cuba with energy-saving light bulbs.

The financial savings have been enormous.

Lying bourgeois reactionaries contend that this major and historic victory in the Energy Revolution shows that Cuba is going capitalist. This is the kind of thing that one expects from slime and filth like bourgeois reactionaries.

Alone with the victorious Energy Revolution, we should acknowledge a big jump in remittances from Cuban patriots living abroud, and the fact that Cuba now has important trade partners in Venezuela, China, and Brazil which wipe their behinds with the US imperialist blockade of Cuba and Venezuela, China, and Brazil have attained high levels of technological develpment in their manufacturing sectors.

Plus, there is some progress in the trade negotiations between Cuba and Argentina.

The two-faced US imperialists and their dog-like Canadian toilet-paper carriers, like GC, conspire for decades to deny Cuba the benefits of international trade by the infamous blockage, creating unnecessary shortages of consumer and capital goods in Cuba.

Now, that discernible evidence that Cuba is breaking out of the blockade with its growing and diversified trade relations with Venezuela, China, and Brazil, the US imperialists and their Canadian rear-kissers say the Cuban breakout of the US imperialist blockade means that capitalism is making a comeback in Cuba.

If breaking out of the blockade restores capitalism in Cuba, why have the US imperialists and their rear-lickers supported the blockade so long and so fanatically?

Only Yukon scum believe that the consumers goods increasingly available to the Cuban workers come for the USA, not Venezuela, China, and Brazil.

Both Haiti and the Dominican Republic have asked for and received Cuban cooperation in the energy field, due largely to the outstanding and exemplary success of the Energy Revolution in Cuba and, of course, the enormous financial savings that result from this success. Given the high price of oil today, these savings can be passed on to the workers, strengthening socialism or, at least, lifting the standard of living of the working class.

DR uses Cuban engineers to explore for oil on land and off its coasts.

Haiti uses Cuban social workers to change millions of energy inefficient light bulbs in the shortest period of time.

We hope that in Haiti and DR, the benefits will be passed on to the working class.

There are more signs of a collapse by US capitalism than by Cuban socialism.

If US capitalism falls, Canadian capitalism will quickly follow.

Suddenly, the US imperialists and slime balls who love the US imperialists are delighted that the imperialist blockade of Cuba is falling apart.

That is, that countries friendly to Cuba are wiping the behinds with the long-standing blockade.

As Cuba's trade with its principal partners grows, the imperialists and slime balls are due for more "delight."

"Havana, Mar 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban doctors will travel to 81 nations to work as physicians in 2008, the director of the Central Unity of Cooperation of the Ministry of Public Health of the island Alberto Gonzalez emphasized. "

"At the moment, 36,578 Cuban doctors and other workers of health services work in 73 nations, Gonzalez emphasized, according to a report from National Agency of Information."

oooo

Meanwhile, the US imperialists are denying the poor of the world access to US patented medications under the "intellectual property rights" doctrine and closing hospitals for the poor through pressure exerted by the IMF and World Bank on the regimes of developing countries.

Reactionaries also argue that Cuban citizens don't have the right or opportunity to travel because Cubans can't frequent the USA and Canadian whorehouses, ignoring the massive worldwide presence of Cuban workers, scientists, and engineers in dozens of countries.

That one is decidedly not my cup of tea.

These misdirection sites which tell lies and spread slanders on Cuba for US Information Service, NED, and CIA are intended for the consumption of US reactionaries, about a third of the US people, who are pathologically addicted to lies and slander.

Even the mainstream of the US cappie or capitalist media possesses too much decency to rehash the kind of lies and slander that the site you recommends favors.

I hope you understand the category of people to whom I refer when I say "reactionary." These animals prefer to call themselves "conservatives" in the USA, and, again, they are about a third of the US people. They are grossly misnamed as "conservatives" because these savages are the most compulsively destructive people who have ever walked the face of the earth.

The site you recommend caters to their foul, animal, low, and degenerate appetites.

Leonel has been the head of state for almost 8 years, might i remind you. what is so intractible about the electricity delivery problem which causes it to be insoluble in 8 years? they built the metro in less than 4! stop with this 'GIVE THE GUY A CHANCE" exhortation. at least lets see some signs that we are headed the right way. a press release just came out that nicaragua and ourselves are the only two nations in dr-cafta which are not eligible for millenium challenge funds. we know why nicaragua is not: Daniel Ortega. what is our excuse?

Jander, i am sorry to hear of your misfortune at the hands of cuban doctors. however, what is the point you aim to make? that cuban doctors are incompetent? that medical malpractice only happens in cuba? maybe doctors in the united states can rest easy. due to the fact that there is no malpractice there, malpractice insurance premiums will become a thing of the past. now they do not have that onerous annual burden to disturb their quietude!

HAVANA, Cuba (Reuters): Canadian tourists fleeing a harsh winter and buoyed by their strong dollar are flocking to Cuban beaches in record numbers and helping Cuba's tourist trade end a two-year slump.

Cuban hotel managers said a surge in Canadian "snowbirds" led to unprecedented tourism during the winter months of January through March.

Having Cuba in the news has spurred interest in visiting the communist-run country, travel agents said.

The tourist trade, a major source of hard currency for Cuba, peaked in 2005 with the arrival of 2.3 million visitors, but dropped to 2.1 million last year, of which some 600,00 were Canadians.

But in January this year Cuba received more tourists than in any high season since it opened up to foreign investment and tourism in the mid-1990s: 247,386 visitors. Almost half were Canadians, a 30 percent increase over January last year.

About 50 flights land each week from Canada.

Cuba's ministry of tourism has actively sought new business offering tour operators better-priced deals compared to rival Mexican and Dominican destinations, the manager said.

Last year Cuba also cut the price it charges for aviation fuel, lowering charter company costs, he said.

American tourists are barred by [repressive] US laws from traveling the Caribbean island nation.

But Spanish tourism is picking up after a drop due to the purchase by American companies of two travel businesses, Iberoworld and Pullmantur, which under [repressive and extraterritorial] US laws eliminated much of Spanish tourism to Cuba.

"The statistics are looking very rosy through 2010," said a British travel agency representative with strong bookings through the summer. Britain is the second source of tourists for Cuba after Canada, with about 25 charter flights a week.

Cuba expanded its hotel capacity to 44,000 rooms in 2006, about half administered by foreign companies such as Spanish chain Sol Melia and France's Accor.

[In 2007, the Dominican Republic was number one in Caribbean as a tourism destination with about 3,000,000 visits or about 900,000 more than Cuba in 2007.]
