New York.– Representative Charles B. Rangel has delivered six checks, totaling $10,800, to New York State and to the I.R.S. to pay the back taxes he owes from rental income on his Dominican villa, his legal team announced on Friday

According to The New York Times, Rangel acknowledged this month that he had failed to declare $75,000 in rental income from his beachfront villa on both his tax returns and financial disclosure forms. Rangel’s lawyers said he owed back taxes for at least three years and had hired a forensic accounting firm to review his records dating back 20 years to search for additional omissions.

While that review is under way, and the House ethics committee is weighing Rangel’s request that it investigate the matter, the congressman sent checks on Thursday for his unpaid taxes in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Rangel, a Harlem Democrat, has come under fire in recent months for his fund-raising and personal finances, and is also the subject of two other ethics investigations: one into his use of his Congressional stationery to raise money for a City University of New York center that will bear his name, the other involving the four rent-stabilized apartments that a landlord allowed him to lease at prices far below the market rate.

and "Plugs "But the reality for Mr. Biden is that while running mates are second-fiddlers by definition, the phenomenon of Ms. Palin has rendered him something of a fourth or fifth fiddle. It is not like last month, when reporters swarmed Mr. Biden’s Delaware home and delegates swooned at the Democratic convention. He is now trailed by just a few national reporters, and struggling to break through in a race marked by historic firsts, political celebrities and charismatic newcomers — none named Joe Biden.

The Obama campaign was hoping to reintroduce Mr. Biden this week as running mate attack dog. But his penchant for verbal rambling ensured that much of the attention he drew was unwanted: he said wealthy Americans had a “patriotic” duty to pay more taxes, a remark the McCain campaign mocked relentlessly"

75, 000 dollars in rental income....hmmmm. so he owes 10,000 to the govt...hmmm. i wonder how much nine trips to Cat Cay in a Lear Jet is worth? i do not know, so i will send an e-mail to Johnny Mac, since it was his boy John Keating who owned the Lear and the villa. it was not a 747. no, the number 747 was the amount of savings and loan banks which collapse after mac's friends (the keating 5), had looted them. 10 grand is small potatoes. the democrats are an embarrassment. they will forever steal small. they should borrow the republican playbook. steal enough to put the entire country in hock to sovereign funds actors.

that was 30 years ago dread please ....listen what soon to be retired charley had to say"Last July, the Republican Party declared guerrilla war against Democrats and since then has made every effort to smear me and members of my party," Rangel wrote in the letter.

"My record in the Ways and Means Committee and 38 years in Congress is unassailable, so they've pried into my private life and used insinuation and half-truths to write stories that sell papers," Rangel wrote.....this is laughable Mr. No speeky spanish also forgot about his cars and apartments until his soon to be ex wife said " do what I tell you or it will be jail for you " end of divorce hearing....charley is now personal lap dog of Senora Rangel...they will go into the twilight together

Well, I will not address 30 years ago as Dread has done a good job on that point. My question is what about the BIGGEST financial crisis in our history since the great depression ....which has again occurred with republicans on watch. Now, the Washington veteran Mac wants to campaign on change (wonder where he got that concept from?). Well, Mac sure as hell can't run on the past 8 years of Bush/Mac republicans running the country....and he knows it! If 9/11 had not happen then I doubt Bush II would have even got a 2nd term but would be a one term Prez. But Bush II got a 2nd term and we see the fruits of his labor which is too numerous to mention.

Mac still says the country is strong whereas economists & Warren Buffet support Obama! Along with his "change" campaign, Mac is lying to the American families that Obama will raise their taxes even tough the Tax Policy Cmt states low & mid-class families will be 3x better off with Obama (and Mac knows this). I do like Palin's legs!

first of all, JD, as usual, GC cannot square with the truth. the Keating 5 scandal was somewhere around 1989, which makes it less than 20 years ago. so, the half truth champ punches again. secondly, McCain was universally characterised as the "most reprehensible" of the Keating 5. he took 112,000 of the guys money, 9 trips to his mansion in the Bahamas, numerous other flights in the Lear, got a sweetheart deal on a supermarket for his wife, among other things. then, he went on the tv circuit like the lowlife he is, and trashed the other guys to save his hide. it is his lack of character which is in question. by the way, GC, do you think OJ Simpson is innocent, just because a jury said so?

Also, remeber that Mac & the republicans are big advocates of less government, reduced regulation & red tape and that a true free market system should self-regulate. Now, all this sounds good on the surface when using catchy slogans of "less government regulation", As we have moved down that road now we have household names such as Bear Sterns, AIG, Lehmann Brothers, Merril Lynch, Washington Mutual, CitiBank, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and Country Wide... etc etc. All these firms were allow to do whatever they wanted to do without any regard as Bush had another de-regulator (Cox) in the head seat at the SEC.

I have lost about US $40,000 this summer on the end-product of this "less regulation" but others have far more exposure.

The Rangel tax payment will be only one-single-drop in billion gallon ocean water which represents the huge new deficit add-on needed to close the gap on the $700 Billion taxpayer expense to pay for the sins & mistakes of the past 8 years! Go Mac?

(con't)
They criticized the Dems as "tax & spend" (even though the surplus & balanced budgets were under Clinton & Kennedy).

The "smoke-n-mirrors" strategy of mud slingin' is effective at diverting attention from themselves (GOP) has worked to earn the name "borrow-n-spend" or "deficit records-n-spend".

Reagan got elected criticizing gov't deficits but then once elected ran record deficits to finance a recovery while at the same time cutting taxes. Bush is doing the same thing to cut taxes for the super rich (lowers gov't revenue BUT spending more than ever) yielding new record deficits over Reagan's. The "borrow-n-spend" GOP have worked the biggest con-job via labeling the Dems as wasteful. Mac is now continuing that by LYING to American families that Obama will raise their taxes. Mac thinks the American people are stupid!

But truthfully Palin is hot!

GC, should never question integrity of Rangel with GOP's like Oliver North drug profits-for ARMS-for hostages.

JD, let goulet understand that most people hold their noses and vote for undesirables, because the alternative is unthinkable! you have to be beyond senile to imagine a world in which Sarah Palin is a major player. i like to believe that the people who lead me are more intelligent than i am. sadly, a guy who finished 895 out of 899 in his class, and a woman who had to go to 5 junior colleges in 6 years to get an undergraduate degree, are not my idea of people who are too bright from the outset.

I see that this has become a who is worse the Republicans or Democrats. Bothy parties have corrupt members, but the point is missed here. This is a website with Dominican news. The tax evasion occurred linked to property owned in DR, not to present articles comparing apples and oranges. So, to try to absolve Rangel of wrongdoing because you may hate Republicans is just downright stupid. He is as crooked as they come, especially worse is owning 4 rent controlled apartments in one building while others in his district are struggling to make ends meet. This man is as low as a maggot, but people want to take it easy on him just because they share the same liberal ideology as him shows your true character: NONE!
