NEW YORK.- New Jersey governor John Corzine last night administered the oath to Alex Blanco, the first Dominican-born mayor in the United States, in the city Passaic.

Hundreds of people, including community leaders cheered to congratulate the Dominican psychiatrist who beat his rival the councilman Vicente Capuana in the special elections held in May.

In his speech Corzine said all of New Jersey and especially Passaic’s residents are proud to have Blanco representing them in their interests and hopes.

Blanco, who spoke in the Martin Luther King Public School in Spanish and English, said Passaic’s major strength lies in its diversity.

He is a podiatrist not a psychiatrist; although he may need a psychiatrist and an accountant since he is bankrupt and owes the state of NJ $250,000 in taxes.

He must be a Lie-onel Fernandez PLD supporter!

Alex don't abuse your power. Don't be corrupt. Speak and act for all. Use common sense by equilibrating job creation, wealth creation, subsidizes, environment, and security with the law and the Constitution. Fight for the people of NJ-Passaic. Be creative and don't follow the mold. Do not appoint friends. Let the Saxons keep their police, firefighter, and sanitation jobs (minimize enemies). Trust NO-one! Celebrate the english culture. Keep emergency teams prepared (drill), trained and well supplied. Anticipate rather than react. Visit all areas of Passaic, listen, write down, question, suggest, and alway ask the "what if scenario." Try to end parasitic loops, cycles, and way of doing things that dragged Passaic down the toilet. Be accessible to the media and use the media to your advantage. Focus on the youth and the elderly. Find a way to freeze taxes.

I don't think USA needs any more minds, DR does. Besides, I wouldn't welcome very well a Haitian mayor in my city, who on top of that says that "The strength is in diversity". I think people in USA are getting tired.

I love the fact that he is both a politician and a professional which gives him a certain edge. The fact that he is Dominican makes me proud and is a voice to young dominicans in the US. You can be all you want to be.
