New York.– Bronx's Grand Concourse was a sea of red, white and blue flags for the 20th annual Dominican Parade Sunday. The
parade, which celebrates the culture the Dominican Republican and the
city's Dominican population, stretched from East Tremont Avenue to
167th Street.
According to the organizers, the parade featured about 20,000 marchers representing 102 organization, 40 floats and lively Dominican music. City
and state officials, including Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.,
Senator Charles Schumer and City Comptroller and mayoral candidate
William Thompson, took part in the parade.
"There was a little
debate about that this morning in the breakfast that I sponsored,
whether Washington Heights was the motherland of the Dominican
community, or the west side of the Bronx is," said Diaz. "But you can
certainly feel it."
"This parade each and every year continues
to get bigger and bigger and bigger as we celebrate Dominican culture
and Dominican heritage and the contributions that Dominicans have made
not just to the Bronx but to New York City. So I would not miss this
for the world," said Thompson.

Parades are a real nice way to celebrate our Culture and serves as an temporary escape from reality.
A close Friend and fellow Dominican told me that He was ashamed after a visit to "Little Santo Domingo" in New York, the trash run-down Streets and the hustle and bustle was truly heart breaking, it was like We Dominicans were importing our problems and shameful life styles from the DR. We Dominican's need to clean our act up from all aspects of Life. Then we can truly say with Pride.........
"SANTO DOMINGO, FIRST CITY OF LAS AMERICA'S".
Correct me if I'm wrong but........
We Dominican's can truly claim PRIDE by right Historically to be AMERICANOS de la Isla de QUISQUEYA .

Which parade? there are a few. The main festival called by the old timers "Dia de los Diablos" where all Hell breaks lose, dress like your favorite DEMON get drunk and dance the Streets and act demonized [one all Dominicano's I'm sure can be proud of] excepted and sanctified by the Catholic Church in order to get there numbers up 1 day after the Dominican version of October fest. Another excuse for all to get drunk and do things just for the night & day all in the name of fun, I will not mention details on this web-site for fear of disgracing our Women & Country any more then they already are.
As an Dominicano raised in the U.S as a Child who is the retard or Ignorant Person your referring too?
Please explain and clarify.
Take care.

I hate all parades. At least there are no floats. Just people draped in flags, drinking and dancing. mirabal4ever I think most displays of nationalism/patriotism are pathetic. I guess it expresses some yearning. If you want to walk in the sun or watch other walk in the sun, go ahead retard!

I live in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and this parade takes place on the grand concourse, which is I believe one of the most beautiful streets in the Bronx. This road was replicated after park avenue with it is center walkways and tree lined seating areas. The concourse was at one time the gran jewl of the bronx and if you ever visit the area you could see the great architecture of the buldings. I will pruchase one of those apartments in heart bit if was not for the filth that has taken over such nice area. The fact that they leave a huge amount of garbage behind is not only emabrassing, but discussing. I have never attended the parade nor would ever attend, because all you see is this bunch ingrate people littering the area and spilling over other areas blowing their stupid horns. They do same when they come to our area of van cortland park and leave all the garbage behind, yes right by the horse stable, that area is reserve for our kids to practice soccer and softball,

and you guys have simply taken over the palce. If you are going to use, then clean it after you are done. We pay top dollars for the coops in the area to keep it clean and safe for our family. And yes this is coming from a dominican who is sick and tire of explaining such behaviors o my neighbors in the building. Please change your ways and respect property. I was in the DR for 20 days this past month, working on a project and vacationing and I realized that such behaviors are not developed here, but exported from there. People in the DR has not respect for private property and does not care to simply deposit the empty can on the sidewalk and keep walking. I am done ranting.

Dagtan,
Ever been to the other parts of NYC, looks just like South Central Los Angeles and any other parts of big Cities in the U.S.A. I'm sure if Dominicans in the DR had hooptys.
They would have traveling music with boom boxes just like they the U.S of A.
Regarding trash.....again just like at other big Cities in the U.S.
Regarding private property...Ever heard of Trespassing Laws.
Regarding the cost associated with costly Police & Clean-up...Ever been to the Saint Patty's day Parade, Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Major Sports winning celebrations and the grand Daddy of them all...The New Years bash in Times Square.
Regarding taking over the place...ever wonder how the Natives People must of felt ? and are still felling ?
Ever think of the U.S Drug consumption and the Country's who no falt of there own become a mid-point to the U.S.
More coming your way.

Dagtan,
GOOD THING.....You and your Neighbors clean-up that Mr. Ed Horse Stable area....
The thought of your Children while playing Soccer or Soft-ball just happens to step on that darn Horse Dong or by accident get confused in the heat of winning a Softball game and mistake a Horse Dong for a SOFTBALL.
Not to add the possibility of one of the Younger Neighborhood Children thinking that small piece of Horse Dong laying around is a small piece of Hershey's Chocolate......YUK !
The thought , the Health issues.

etiennc01, when are people like you going to take ownership of our people behaviors. It is time for Dominicans to start talking abou the things that makes our people weaker not atronger in the eyes of the public in NYC. Yes, mrios, I do understand your point when it comes to then other parades. The only difference is that once the Thanksgiving, Saint Patty's and others are done, they are done. I do not see the Irish driving up and down the street blowing their horns and with their radios blasting to the pint that you can even sleep. Our people need to understand that the world does not evolve around them, and that there are poeple that want to rest. Moreover, if it is not their neighborhood, they should atleast show some respect. The Horse stable area has become rat infested and even with signs clearly indicating no picnic or grilling, you still see them every weekend doing it. I hope that some of the people that read this page know what I am talking about and they will, cont

Dagtan,
I understand your plight..Why don't you start a Neighborhood Watch program with your Local Police.
Without violating any Civil rights the following should be Enforced.
Those Blasting load music should be cited for "disturbing the Peace".
Trash being tossed should be cited for "Littering" [hefty fine]
Those driving up & down your Streets are causing a Traffic hazard with Children around, Law Enforcement should stop & check for any Vic. Violations, current Auto registration, Driver's License and Insurance then ask for known Address [if not locals, should be told to leave the area]
Enforce the Curfew and Loitering Laws..
Alcohol Violations such as open containers, Public Drunkenness, Minors in possession or under the influence of Alcohol.
For next years Parade have it moved to another Location and or ask your City Officials to post a Million Dollar liability Ins. with funds set aside for CLEAN-UP and DEMAND Law Enforcement Enforce all Laws, Rules & regulations.
