New York.- The Dominican-born lawyer Camelia M. Valdes, 37, a graduate of New Jersey’s prestigious Rutgers University Law School, yesterday became the first Latina designated District Attorney of a county in the U.S.

Governor Jon Corzine designated her as the Passaic County Prosecutor and confirmed by the State Senate, based on her professional merits and judicial career.

Valdes, who presided New Jersey’s Hispanic Lawyers Association, is part of the new generation of Dominican and Latino immigrants in the United States, who’ve reached relevant positions few ever imagined.

Congratulations.

Don't you think calling Rutgers a prestigious law school is a bit of a stretch?

It is sad to see our most talented people go and develop abroad, while in the island we have to deal with Radames Segura and the rest of the narcopoliticos.

very sad.
