New York.– Benny Delgado, a paroled murderer, was arrested Monday for fatally shooting a Bronx livery cab driver of Dominican origin, the second driver killed on the job in a week, police said.
Jose Peña-Segura, 42, the father of four daughters, died at Lincoln Hospital at 11 p.m. Sunday, less than an hour after he was shot in the head during a robbery attempt in Mott Haven, police said.
Career criminal Delgado, 31, fled the scene but had not gotten far when he was caught carrying the revolver believed to have been used in killing, cops said. Delgado, of the Bronx, was hit last night with a second-degree murder charge as well as felony raps for criminal possession of a weapon and assault, cops said.
The suspect –who has more than 20 arrests– was released from prison in 2007 after serving 12 years on an attempted murder conviction. Investigators believe Peña-Segura, was flagged down by Delgado and two other men near St. Mary's Park - and one of them immediately brandished a .25-caliber revolver, police said.
When Peña-Segura refused to hand over his money, the gunman opened fire from the backseat. Witnesses saw the three men run from the cab moments after the shooting. Delgado was stopped in St. Mary's Park, police said. The two other robbers were still on the loose last night.
"Jose was a very good man," said his wife, Natalia Espinosa, speaking through tears. On Aug. 16, livery driver Amadou Ndiaye, 46, was shot through the heart and robbed by a passenger while driving in Baychester. His killer remains at large.

While Dominicans definitely need to look out for each other, soliciting street-gang protection or revenge killings does nothing positive for our community. May I also remind you that DDP (as "patriotic" as they may want to be seen) actively war with Trinitiarios, another Dominican street gang.
These thugs do not help the Dominican community nor its image.
R.I.P. Jose
Here is a man earning a hard-working living and this obvious loser, a horrible product of a really dumb and benevolent system, ends his life while in commission of a robbery.
Really, system needs to be reformed on side of justice. These losers, like Benny, should be locked up permanently and the key thrown away. Perhaps we should farm them out to prisons far away, such as Russia or some other eastern European country. That would be justice.
Grosero,
You've convinced me that we [Dominicans] have arrived, but in a regretful way.
As for young criminals populating gangs, that's exactly what they are: criminals who just happen to be young. Forget age. Try them as adults and given long sentences. And, if they are not citizens, deport them. That would be justice.
Another family to be raised without a father.
Sad. It's just sad.
My condolences.
The US really needs to decide once and for all how to deal with these violent criminals.
I've been an avid opponent of State-sponsored death penalty, but I don't know?...
...Maybe we should start handing these low-lives over to the families?
What the hell happened to 3 strikes and your out? also why second degree, should be 1st, was a conscious decision with a weapon. Fry his ass!
